Sowing seeds of faith and friendship during backyard bible club.
On August 19-21, we hosted a Backyard Bible Club for kids. We played games, made crafts, had snacks, and most importantly, learned about Jesus’s 3 big jobs as our Redeemer: Prophet, Priest, and King. Young and old generationally connected. It was a great ending to summer & beginning to our core team’s formation.
Connecting with Laborers in Christ on India day.
Pastor Cord connected with Brother David and others from the organization Laborers in Christ at an India Day festival in Novi, MI. Laborers in Christ is a ministry focused on reaching Indians of South Asian origin in SE Michigan and other parts of the Midwest region. Further partnership opportunities are being prayerfully considered!

We are actively meeting for worship at 10:30am on Sundays, but our current stage is ‘core team formation’. This Fall, Pastor Cord will begin public engagement with Northville and Novi. All Souls Presbyterian Church will publicly launch the second week of January.

You don't have to already believe anything to keep reading. You just have to be curious. Maybe you grew up going to church and it didn't stick. Maybe you've never set foot in one and don't plan to start now. Either way, we're genuinely glad you're here, and we'd love to actually meet you.
Here's what we believe, stated plainly: every person matters — not because of what they've built or achieved or believe, but simply because every person was made by God. That includes you. And we think most people are missing out on really knowing the God who made them — not because they're somehow worse than others, but because that connection got broken along the way, and Jesus is how it gets repaired. We'd love to help you explore what that means, at whatever pace makes sense for you.
Why start a new church here?
All Souls Presbyterian Church exists because Cord and Katy Carlin said yes to something they didn't see coming: starting a church built around Jesus, right here in Northville and Novi.
On paper, these are two of the healthiest communities in Metro Detroit — good schools, good jobs, good everything. But comfort and hunger for something more aren't opposites. Northville's ease and Novi's rapid growth both point to the same quiet reality: a lot of people here have hit the goals they set for themselves and still sense something's missing. That's who we started this for.
We're not doing this alone
This isn't a solo project. We're part of a larger family of Presbyterian churches (the PCA) and one of several churches being planted together through The Detroit Project, a group of Detroit-area churches that supports each other so nobody's building from scratch or answering to no one. Real backing, real accountability.
What we're actually trying to do
Our mission fits on a napkin and takes a lifetime to live out: help people know Jesus — everyone, everywhere, whatever it costs us — starting right here. We want our worship to be substantial, not shallow or showy, and our door to be genuinely open, because everything comes back to the same thing: people knowing Christ for themselves.
We're not trying to shuffle already-churched families from one Sunday service to another. We're for the people who've never gone, used to go and stopped, or show up but never really connected — because we think a church should be judged by who's missing, not who's already comfortable in the room. In practice, that means:
Real, face-to-face connection — people who know your name, not just your seat.
Showing up in this town, not just this church — coaching, volunteering, serving on local boards, being part of Northville and Novi, not separate from it.
Hospitality that actually costs something — our tables and homes are open, not just our lobby.
Sticking with people — relationships built to last, not outreach that moves on once you've said yes.

Our staff
Rev. Cord Carlin is All Souls' pastor — trained, ordained, and specifically prepared for the work of starting a new church, with a graduate degree in theology (an M.Div.) from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, finished in 2021. He's part of a centuries-old strand of Christianity called Reformed theology — think less "trendy," more "tested over a long time" — but he doesn't wear it stiffly. What people notice first is usually the opposite: he's easy to talk to, remembers your story, and would rather sit across a table from you than lecture at you.
He preaches by walking through books of the Bible rather than picking topics off the shelf — a style that tends to land with people who've sat in church their whole lives and people who've never opened a Bible, in the same room. He's also just good at bringing people together and pointing them toward something worth building.
Cord and his wife, Katy, have felt the pull toward starting a church since they began doing ministry together back in 2014 (they got married in 2015). Now, with their four kids in tow, they're doing exactly that — moving into Northville and Novi, opening their home, and building a church aimed at more than Sunday morning: they want to see these cities flourish, spiritually and practically, for everyone in them, not just the people who show up.
